#POLITICALNEWS Muhammadu Buhari, the president-elect, on May 18 blasted the Nigerian military over their inability to protect the Nigerians affected by Boko Haram insurgency

Speaking on Monday while visited by members of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in Kaduna, Buhari expressed displeasure with the situation, The Nation reports.

The All Progressives Congress politician also said that his administration would promote fiscal discipline and tackle security, unemployment and corruption challenges.

"The Nigerian military has never been so incapacitated like now. It is a shame that the military cannot secure 14 local governments out of the 774 local governments in the country.

"What is more worrisome is the fact that the military had to rely on South African machinery before it could gain recent success in the war against Boko Haram.

"My administration will concentrate on major areas on assumption of office, that is, insecurity, the economy, unemployment and corruption. We will ensure we nip the insecurity in the bud.

"The Nigeria Army could not do small thing, they have to bring in South African machinery to enable them record the recent gains in the northeast.

"I don't know how many of you know this. I got to know about it few days ago that the recent gains in the northeast were because South African mercenary were used."

Buhari also assured that his administration will pay more attention to needs of the ‎ thousands of people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast.

Recall that the APC presidential candidate (at that time)‎, but the PDP-led government.

Two months ago, however, Buhari commended President Goodluck Jonathan for mobilizing the military in their fight against insurgents. This came after a long-lasting criticism of Jonathan's administration over not taking those steps earlier.
