#GAMINGNEWS ‘DOOM’ Confirmed For E3 2015, A 3-Second Teaser Is All You Get For Now

Bethesda Softworks gave its first confirmation on Monday of what it plans to show at its first E3 press conference next month. While it's not the Fallout 4announcement that so many are hoping for, we do get our very first official glimpse at a new DOOM in over a decade for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

The DOOM E3 2015 teaser is very brief. So brief that you've probably already spent longer reading this article than the three seconds from the teaser trailer that shows in-game footage. What we do see though is a shotgun being loaded before a quick to what looks like a Revenant walking while firing shoulder-mounted cannons and screaming.

Those counting down the days to the Bethesda Softworks E3 2015 press conference need to set their target for June 14 at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT. A Twitch livestream will be available to watch at this time, since not everyone can make it to Hollywood, CA.

The return of DOOM has been a long time coming.Doom 3 was released in 2004, but developer id Software has undergone a large number of changes in the interim. Another entry in the series was announced in 2007 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as Doom 4, but then Bethesda owner ZeniMax Media purchased id Software. The post-apocalyptic shooter Rage was the focus of the developer though, and that flopped both critically and commercially when it was released in 2011. Doom 4 received the development studios focus, but a 2013 leak viaKotaku revealed that the game was stuck in "development hell."

Doom 4 was sent back to the drawing board and given a complete reboot as DOOM. A beta was announced as a pre-order tie-in to Wolfenstein: The New Order in 2014, but the beta still has not happened yet.

Attention surrounding DOOM heightened at QuakeCon 2014, following a behind closed doors trailer that showed gameplay. Those who were able to attend reported new movement mechanics like double jumping, vaulting, and manteling (viaGameSpot). There was the expected amount of blood and gore along with finishing moves and even the ability to rip a NPC character's arm off to use when opening a biometric security door.

The DOOM franchise helped to define the first-person shooter as a genre along with other id Software classics such as Castle Wolfenstein 3D andQuake. Whether this reboot of the series can meet the same success that Wolfenstein: The New Ordermet remains to be seen. However, DOOM may be just as important a debut at E3 2015 for Bethesda and id Software as Fallout 4.
