Leather flip cases are all good and well for some people. However, we all have different tastes and I have skin case for review for those who like such cases. I tried the OEM Hard Shell for the BlackBerry Passport but since that only really covers up the corners of the device, I decided to look elsewhere. That's when I came across the Amzer Pudding TPU case.
It's a skin case that slips on very easily to your BlackBerry Passport. Just insert the top of the Passport into the case then push down on the bottom. The volume and mute keys are covered up, though they are easily pressed. There are cut outs on the bottom for the speakers, charger port and mic. On the top there are cut outs for the power/sleep button and the headphone jack. Of course, the back has a cut out for the camera.
The case itself is made up of multiple thermoacrylics, basically strong, moldable TPU -- a hybrid of plastic and silicone. It is flexible yet strong and is resistive to oils, so no finger residue. The back has a matte finish while the sides have glossy finish that adds grip around your Passport. There is a decent lip that comes over the sides of the device so if you lay your Passport facedown, the screen won't be touching the surface. What's nice about the Amzer case is that when you get to the keyboard area, the case doesn't come over as much as to not get in the way of typing on the keyboard. A nice little touch.
There are a few negatives with the case. It does attract lint when put in a pocket, though not as much as previous silicone cases I have had. I would have also preferred the power button to have been covered up, I find I have to press a lot harder or use the tip of my finger to press the button. But I guess the benefit of having it open is that you don't accidentally press it. It will come down to preference. The cut out for the headphone jack was enough for the headphones I use but it may not fit some of the more bigger headphone jacks.
The Good
- Flexible
- No fingerprints
- Slim profile
The Bad
- Attracts lint
- Would prefer power button covered
The bottom line
The Amzer Pudding TPU case is a good choice if you're looking for a slim and sleek skin case. it doesn't add much bulk and will do a decent job protecting your device from knocks and scratches. The material is flexible but strong and you can slip your device in and out of it very easily. The glossy edges offer a nice grip, I don't find it slippery at all. Though you may find the matte finish on the back is slippery, however, the way you'd hold the device would include hold the glossy areas so it shouldn't slip out of your hands. I have butter fingers and don't find it slip out of my hand when in use. I would go with this case if you want to protect your Passport from scratches and basic protection
