MOVIES: New teaser for Sharknado 2: The Second One reminds you to fear the skies… again!

Just when the threat of tornado-borne sharks seemed like a distant memory, the latest teaser for Sharknado 2: The Second One serves up a reminder that we are never safe from flying, finned predators of the seas.

And apparently, that threat is also present for everyone on the East Coast, too.

It was almost a foregone conclusion that the viral popularity of SyFy's ridiculous, 2013 film about a catastrophic weather event that forces various Los Angeles residents to battle flying sharks with chainsaws (which may be the greatest sequence of words I've ever strung together in a single sentence, by the way) would spawn a sequel, and that sequel is the appropriately tongue-in-cheek titled Sharknado 2: The Second One. While the setting for the new film moves the shark-battling shenanigans to New York City, returning cast members (and Sharknado survivors) Tara Reid and Ian Ziering provide some continuity for what is now an honest-to-goodness, bona fide franchise. (Narrative continuity being so important for a movie franchise about a tornado filled with sharks, of course.)

In SyFy's new teaser for Sharknado 2 (embedded below), there's no shortage of sharks and various characters being threatened by them via air, sea, or land, but there's also a series of shots that should please any New York City residents who felt a little left out of the adventure last time around. Along with shots of Ian Ziering holding a chainsaw while standing on top of a taxi in the streets of Manhattan, there are also looks at Ziering running from sharks in the subway, and the impending storm laying waste to Citi Field, the home stadium of the NY Mets. (As if the Mets don't have enough problems.)

The film premieres Wednesday, July 30, at 9pm ET on SyFy, and it reportedly features a long list of notable celebrity cameos, including Matt Lauer, Al Roker, Kelly Osborne, Biz Markie, Judd Hirsch, Andy Dick, Perez Hilton, and professional wrestler Kurt Angle. Along with Ziering and Reid, the cast of the film includes Mark McGrath, Vivica A. Fox, Judah Friedlander, and Kari Wuhrer.
