Universal announced plans to move forward with Fast & Furious 7. The film, which was initially slated for a
summer 2014 release, will now be released in spring 2015 and will include scenes with the late Paul Walker.
"Continuing the global exploits in the franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead the returning cast of Fast & Furious 7, which will be released by Universal pictures on April 10, 2015. James Wan directs this
chapter of the hugely successful series, and Neal H. Moritz and Vin Diesel return as producers," said the
studio in a statement.
Diesel recently posted a photo on Facebook from one of the last scenes he did with Walker, along with a short
post announcing the new date. He wrote, "The last scene we filmed together... There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared...in the film we were now completing...the magic captured... and in just how far we've come."
The decision to move forward with the franchise is not surprising. The Fast & Furious series, which launched in 2001, has brought in more than $2 billion at the box office. The last installment, Fast & Furious 6, was the
most successful, bringing in $789 million.
According to E! News, the movie was about 60 percent complete before production halted for a Thanksgiving
break. Walker died in a single car accident in Santa Clarita, Calif., on Nov. 30.
It's unclear how the film will work around Walker's absence. The cast is expected to return to the set early
next year.
