#TECHNEWS Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Edge Will Compete With iPhone 7 Plus This Fall

Samsung

Samsung is not only preparing the Galaxy Note 5 for a Fall release, but likely preparing a Galaxy Note 5 Edge (sometimes referred to as the Galaxy Note Edge 2) as well. The first Galaxy Note Edge was released in 2014 to mediocre reviews. It had one side that went over to the Edge and was seen as useless, for the most part.

When Samsung produced the Galaxy S6 Edge, they made sure it was a premium looking device where the screen spread slightly over the edge on both sides. Users are so much in love with the Galaxy S6 Edge that Samsung, according to many sources, is producing a similar Galaxy Note 5 Edge. This weekend, Phone Arena reported on a major test regarding Samsung's upcoming device.

"The test measured Samsung browser 3.2 on the Samsung ZenZero. This is the code name allegedly being given to the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 5 edge. This model will reportedly come with curved glass on both sides of the 5.4-inch or 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen."

SamMobile also looks forward to the next Galaxy Note Edge.

"It is codenamed 'Project Zen' internally, and it will not be just a curved screen variant of the Galaxy Note 5 (as was the case with the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge) as its hardware internals will not be completely high-end. It is rumored to feature a 5.4-inch/5.5-inch Super AMOLED dual-edge curved display, an S Pen, a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor, 16GB storage, a 16-megapixel primary camera with OIS, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera."

Other rumors about the Galaxy Note 5 Edge (and regular Galaxy Note 5) reveal that both devices may have a 4K screen. While some believe a 4K screen on a smartphone less than six inches is overkill, 4K is definitely needed for a clear virtual reality experience with a compatible virtual reality device so the user doesn't see a screen door effect. Both devices will be compatible with Samsung's first consumer version of the Gear VR. The first Gear VR was released as a developer's edition for the Galaxy Note 4 and a second developer's edition was just released for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

Samsung will likely be competing with the iPhone 7 Plus, which WCCF Tech says may have a killer screen as well.

"There's a rumor of an edge-to-edge screen with Home button integrated into the display… While not a sure shot but we might see the Force Touch display technology being employed on the upcoming iPhone 7 duo. To fight back the immense success of Galaxy S6 duo and keeping up with the design ideology of Watch and the new MacBooks, it isn't very far fetched of a feature."
