Few stars have gone through as many transformations as Mark Wahlberg.
How many celebrities can say they've successfully been hailed an actor, an underwear model, a rapper and an ex-con?! Still, it seems that no role has suited the 42-year-old quite as well as father to his four children—Ella, Grace, Michael and Brendan.
So it's fitting he'd appear on the cover of Esquire's "fatherhood issue" to open up about his own childhood and his trials and tribulations raising his own kids.
"I think, for the most part, I had a pretty good childhood. It wasn't until we got older that we realized we didn't have what a lot of other people had," he tells the mag.
In turn, he emphasizes the importance of raising his own children—who probably don't have to share bunk beds, like he did—to appreciate everything that's available to them.

"The biggest thing for me is, you know, as quickly as I was able to turn it around, to get from there to here, from me having nothing as a kid to me here now, providing everything for my kids, it's like, I worry that maybe they won't appreciate things," he confesses.
"I worry that maybe they'll have a sense of entitlement. You don't wanna give your kids everything without giving them the tools to be great people."
And hopefully, they will learn by his example.
Mark went back to school and earned his G.E.D. last fall, after dropping out of high school decades ago, to make sure his children learned a valuable lesson about working hard and chasing your dreams.
"I can't tell my kids to go to school and get an education if I don't have a diploma," he explains. "I'm proud to have it. If I want to go on and further my education and study film or whatever, I can do that."
