Hollywood is holding its breath for the unveiling of Oscar nominations at the academy's headquarters on Thursday.
This year's films are jammed pack with A-list celebrities giving career-defining performances.
The shortlist of the top award, best film, can comprises between 5 to 10 movies. And in a strong year like this, it is likely to be closer to the higher end. Top Golden Globes winners "12 Years A Slave", "American Hustle","Gravity" are expected to be among them.
For best actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Golden Globe winner Matthew McConaughey are likely frontrunners, but Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio are also contenders. Cate
Blanchett, who won the Golden Globe best actress, is strongly tipped to do the same at the Oscars.
Sandra Bullock, Emma Thompson, Amy Adams and Judi Dench are also in the frame. The Oscar nominees and laureates are chosen by some 6 thousand industry professionals. As this year's field of contenders is the
strongest for years, the prediction of who will be nominated is tougher than ever.
