After Superman and Batman brawl in 2016′s sequel to Man Of Steel, the whole DC Comics team will finally get together for a Justice League movie, according to Warner Bros. The announcement seemed all but inevitable given the addition of Ben Affleck as Batman to the Man Of Steel sequel and recent casting for veteran Justice League members Wonder Woman and Cyborg, but now it's official. The studio's president of worldwide production, Greg Silverman, also indicated that Man Of Steel director Zack Snyder will be behind the camera when Justice League begins production.
"It will be a further expansion of this universe," Silverman told The Wall Street Journal. "'Superman vs Batman' will lead into 'Justice League.'"
Neither the Man Of Steel sequel nor the Justice League follow-up have an official title at this point, and the latter project isn't expected to hit theaters until 2018 at the earliest. Henry Cavill is expected to return as Superman for both films, along with Affleck's Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Last week, stage actor Ray Fisher was cast in the role of Cyborg, who is expected to make a cameo in the Man Of Steel sequel and return for a larger role in the Justice League movie.
The DC Comics superhero team has featured a long list of characters on its roster over the years, but Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are widely regarded as the "Trinity" at its core. Along with longtime member Cyborg — a star athlete whose body was augmented with advanced cybernetics after a traumatic accident — heroes like The Flash, Aquaman, and Green Lantern have spent a significant amount of time with the team.
Sue Kroll, Warner Bros. President of Worldwide Marketing, also indicated that there's some hope for a Wonder Woman solo movie to spin out of the upcoming slate of films.
"That is our hope," said Kroll. "With the right script, that could be viable. The world is ready for her."
