It's not a secret that Apple and Samsung don't like each other. The two companies have been embroiled in several runs of litigation that's been taking place in courtrooms around the world in the last three years, with the current dispute focused on software patents (surprise!). Even so, Apple took some time off on Earth Day, which is today, to take a less-than-gentle swipe at its main rival.
Apple purchased full-page ads in The Guardian and Metro, two highly-circulated British newspapers, with the ad delivering a subtle jab. The headline reads, "There are some ideas we want every company to copy." The first line of the copy, meanwhile, reads, "There's one area where we actually encourage others to imitate us." The burns, which can be heard if you listened hard enough, were references to Apple's claims that Samsung copied it when it came to the success of the Galaxy smartphone and tablet lines.
The main point of the ad was to highlight Apple's plans for the environment and to ask other companies to follow its lead when it comes to being "green." Even so, it looks like the company still has some Steve Jobs attitude in it, and couldn't help but subtly burn Samsung in the process. It's fun to see these two companies duke it out. Samsung delivered some jabs of its own not too long ago.
