As we noted last week, the 2014 Game Developers Conference was an important show for the future of the gaming industry, and more than 24,000 people were there in person to check it out. It's a new record for the event. By all measures the show was a success, and preparation for the next year's event is already underway.
GDC 2015 will once again be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA, but next year it will take place a little earlier. The show will kick off on Monday March 2 and run through Friday, March 6. The organizers will begin to accept talk and panel submissions this summer, although a specific date was not announced.
Highlights of this year's show included Sony's entry into the VR field with Project Morpheus, the second generation of Oculus Rift devkits was introduced, and new pricing models for some of the biggest gaming development engines in the world were revealed. The show also hosts its own annual awards; this year's Game of the Year winner was The Last of Us, and a Lifetime Achievement Award was given to the former CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment and the "Father of the PlayStation," Ken Kutaragi.
