'I've been speaking to @BarackObama about the situation in Ukraine.

We are united in condemnation of Russia's actions,' Mr Cameron wrote.

But the attempt to portray the PM as a serious statesman was quickly mocked, with comedian Rob Delaney posting a picture of his own, looking just as serious, but holding a tube of toothpaste instead of a phone handset.

Delaney told Obama and Cameron: 'Hi guys, I'm on the line now too. Get me up to speed.'
