TEACHERS and other workers in 104 Federal Government Colleges, FGCs, across Nigeria, also known as Unity Schools, have declared Monday, March 3, a lecture-free day for the students of FGC,Muni Yadi, Yobe State who were murdered by Boko Haram insurgents on Tuesday 25th February 2014.
In a statement yesterday by the umbrella body of the workers; Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, ASCSN, the union said the one day of morning was among others, a show of solidarity with the Management, Staff and Parents of the deceased students.
ASCSN in the statement in Lagos by its Secretary General, Comrade Alade Bashir Lawal, said "ASCSN has declared Monday 3rd March 2014 a Day of Mourning in honour of 30 students of Federal Government College, Muni Yadi, Yobe State who were murdered by Boko Haram insurgents on Tuesday 25th February 2014.
The Leadership of the union decided that Monday 3rd March 2014 should be observed by its teeming members as lecture-free day in the 104 Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) throughout the country to enable the Management and Staff of the School mourn the students who were brutally murdered in the early hours of 25th February 2014 by Boko Haram militants.
"We believe that this gesture is the least honour that can be accorded defenceless students who were murdered in their prime by the religious bigots. It will also send a strong signal to the Boko Haram militants that the entire society is united against its dastardly act. "The one day of mourning is also a show of solidarity with the Management, Staff and Parents of the deceased students."
