War horse rides London eye

Probably the world's most famous puppet, Joey, from the stage hit War Horse, has taken a trip on the London Eye.

The outing marked his 2000th performance in the hit production.

The famous War Horse puppet enjoys a ride on the London Eye and he seems to be liking the view up there.

The star fed on hay in a specially decorated capsule as 130,000 new tickets were released for sale for the stage show, taking bookings at the New London Theatre up to February 2015.

The show tells the story of a Devon farmer's horse, sold to the cavalry and shipped to the French frontline in the First World War. The production is based on a book by former Children's Laureate Michael Morpurgo.

"It's fantastic that we've got, you know, it's 2000 performances on the West End, and we've had millions of
audience members worldwide and here in London seeing the show, getting a fantastic response.

I don't think anyone at the National Theatre or Handspring Puppet
Company ever envisaged that it would be such a big success, and capture the heart of the nation and indeed the world so beautifully." Jimmy Grimes, Puppetry Director, War Horse said.

The production is now in its seventh year in London and the crew never imagined it would run for so long.

"I think there's something magical about the fact that we can see the puppeteers and the actors on-stage with these beautiful animated sculptures, these puppets, and we know they're puppets but we also can't help but believe that they're alive. For a moment our disbelief is
totally suspended because of the way the puppeteers and the actors work together to create that impression of life, And I think that's the experience that the audience get, both young and old." Jimmy Grimes said.

War Horse was devised by London's National Theatre, where it premièred in October 2007 before moving to the
West End. It is also playing in North America and Berlin and on February 27 will be broadcast live in cinemas.
