Way back in April 2013 — not even a year since Vine had launched and no one knew how much entertainment could be packed into 6 short seconds — a video artist named Ryan McHenry had a vision. The Scottish film director uploaded a clip titled "Ryan Gosling won't eat his cereal."
The Vine was a smash hit and it was followed by numerous other installments that soon became the viral sensation of the summer.
So when the Vine star died Saturday after a two-year battle with bone cancer, his fans took to social media to ask Gosling if he would eat some cereal in memory of the late artist.
And late Monday, their requests were granted when Gosling finally shared this tweet:
In a touching tribute that only Vine and Twitter could make possible, theproud new papa did, finally, eat his cereal in what was appropriately his very first post on the micro-video platform.
As BuzzFeed points out, this isn't the first time McHenry's meme caught Gosling's attention. McHenry friend and fellow Viner Hunter Harrison uploaded a screenshot of a letter he says he sent the actor's rep back in 2013.
And just last month, while Gosling was promoting his directorial debut, "Lost River," an iTunes Q&A on Twitter addressed the meme.
McHenry's family, along with fans around the world, wereoverwhelmed by the tribute and hope to keep the late director's memory alive.
