Osun State Branch of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), in a letter to Osun State Governor, has said that Federal Government was not owing the state.
It said this to clarify the claim by the Osun State Government that its inability to promptly pay salaries was due to delay and dwindling allocation from Abuja.
In a letter signed by its Chairman and the Secretary of Action Committee, Dr R.A Adebayo and DrAdeolaAjibare, respectively, the NMA lamented the "agony" that workers in the state were going through.
The group explained further that a meeting called at the instance of the state Head of Service with the National President of NMA, Dr. KayodeObembe and the Chairman of NMA, Oyo State branch, Dr. M.B.Olatunji, in respect of its ultimatum issued to the state government on the matter, led to the discovery of many other issues.
According to Osun State NMA, two previous letters, dated April 2 and April 24, 2015, to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, had not yielded any positive result.
It added that the situation hadforced the body to issue an open letter on the matter.
The NMA regretted that despite effortsit made to broker peace on the matter, "the state governor was unavailable for mediation with all negotiating teams both at the state and national levels."
The NMA explained that it discovered that: "Osun State has received monthly revenue from the Federation Account up till March, 2015 and although there was a general reduction occasioned by the dwindling fortune of the national economy."
The NMA also frowned upon the non-payment of six months' salaries to doctors and other civil servants in Osun, while contractors and political office holders had been the beneficiaries of the available revenue accrued to the state from the Federation Account.
The body criticised the state government for what it called misplaced priorities in resource allocation and distribution, saying: "this situation has adversely affected the welfare of not only its members but the entire citizenry of Osun State.
